I very much like the options in Lightroom around tagging, searching (by date etc), collections, flags and stars. This is all well and good, but it is Linux only.Ī long time ago, in my compact camera days, I used to organise (or rather fail to organise) a photo collection in folders, I could never find anything, and editing was all but impossible when I was dealing with photos by the dousen, I now regularly take photos by the thousand. This isn't of much help.Īdvice online seems to be to use Rapid Photo Downloader to put files in folders for you according to complex naming rules. The only hint I can find anywhere on their docs about how to organise these is that to save memory should avoid putting more than 100 images in a folder. I would like to try RawTherapee, but I see that it operates on a principal of opening folders of images to be edited. I use Ligthroom at the moment and am getting more and more unhappy with my experience for many reasons. I use both Mac and Windows, and need to move projects between these environments easily, preferably using clever file sync tools that are out with the scope of this post.
